ABSTRACT
Bangladesh has experienced multiple economic and social disruptions since the pandemic broke out in March 2020, for which the government has undertaken a range of policy measures. While dealing with the COVID-19 aftermath and recovery, the country is also at a critical junction of overlapping development priorities – graduation from the least developed country status, delivery of sustainable development goals, and transition to a high middle-income country amid evolving global tensions. This overview chapter of the volume reviews the empirical and analytical findings of 12 chapters related to the pandemic impacts and teases out the shared findings and conclusions in areas of health and economic impact at the household level, socioeconomic fallouts, including educational disruption, coping efforts of the disadvantaged population, and the effectiveness of the public policy interventions. In light of the new context, the chapter puts forward a set of lessons for policy transition.
