ABSTRACT
Because of increased agricultural productivity and income levels, China has made significant strides in reducing hunger and malnutrition, with notable progress in the quality and composition of the population’s diet over the past decades. However, diet-related nutrition and health issues and environmental issues are becoming increasingly important. China has begun to pay more attention to the issue of agrifood systems and is proposing a transition to the multi-dimensional goals of nutrition and health, green and low-carbon agriculture, efficiency, resilience and inclusiveness for achieving sustainable healthy diets. In the future, promoting the transformation of sustainable and healthy diets in China requires fourfold efforts, including establishing healthy diet models suitable for Chinese residents, proposing an optimised plan for a sustainable and healthy diet, adjusting international trade and overseas investment to improve residents’ diets and taking several measures to guide interventions to change the diet of the population towards sustainable health.
