ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the development of tools for use in the mentoring of student teachers and elaborates on how these tools can contribute to the quality of mentoring. The presented tools are innovated in co-construction between researchers and actors from the practice field. We illuminate how tools related to 1) a decision simulator, 2) responses from students and self-evaluation, and 3) practice videos can be integrated into a holistic approach to mentoring in practicum. We also present findings related to the investigation of the tools to anchor arguments on how they can enable research-based yet individually adapted mentoring. The findings indicate that the use of tools can enable mentoring that explores essential aspects of teacher roles and competencies, student teachers’ reflection, and beneficial mentoring strategies. We also visualize how a guiding framework for innovation processes can assist us in continuously questioning and critically examining innovation processes in teacher education.
