ABSTRACT

In 2010, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, (UiT) launched a program in teacher education named Pilot in the North (The Pilot). This was the first Norwegian five-year integrated research and development-based program at the master’s level for primary and lower secondary school (PLS) teachers and an important contribution to the work of the Center for Professional Learning in Teacher Education (ProTed). Based on the main principles of The Pilot, a national master program for teachers in PLS was implemented in 2017. The chapter aims to describe the background and context, historically and politically, under which the pilot project was designed. Further, we will reflect on the choices made, the further development of The Pilot, and the importance it may have had in national reforms for TE from 2017.
