ABSTRACT
This introduction provides an overview of heritage's complex interplay with mobility, embodiment and multisensoriality, emphasising its dynamic nature in contemporary society. By examining its historical development and relationship with mobility studies, editors illuminate heritage's role in nation-building, globalisation and community engagement. The authors delineate the spatial, temporal and human dimensions of heritage performance, indicating how human mobility influences heritage negotiations. They describe three instances of engagement with heritage on the move covered by this volume: moving to heritage, moving with heritage and moving through heritage. The introduction provides also an overview of the volume and its core contribution.
