ABSTRACT
Elizabeth Tavella’s chapter examines literary narratives that respond to catastrophic thinking with hopeful speculation and radical reimaginings of existing systems of oppression. A close reading of the anthology of short stories Multispecies Cities: Solarpunk Urban Futures (2021) and Tamiko Beyer’s collection of ecopoems, Last Days (2021), reveals a common, yet differently nuanced, justice-oriented approach promoting both resilient kinship practices and ecocentric inclusiveness. Situated within the confluence of abolitionist frameworks, urban ecology, and multispecies studies, the chapter features a multi-vocal and intersectional symphony of creative voices that reframe the concept of ‘crisis’ as an empowering and ultimately generative space of transformation.
