ABSTRACT

The chapter will show “first steps” of a current research project about the pedagogical framing of transitions in the life course.

The topic of the project lies in the political issue of enhancing and enlarging supporting systems for handling transitions in the life course. These so-called career guidance services more and more often take place in quite different social places and for lots of different life events. The aim of the project is to answer the question of how transitions are shaped by personal career guidance services and thereby treated as educational issues. The aim of one part of the project is to identify relevant discourses within the educational EU policy.

The first part of the chapter focuses on the development of the research questions according to SKAD and how SKAD guides the research interest. In the second part, the chapter addresses the strategy of data collection and discusses the strategy of theoretical sampling by using the identified Story Line of the discourse. Third, by analysing a short section of the data, the chapter will demonstrate how the open coding could lead to first empirical insights, which in turn leads to identifying patterns of interpretation as a central analytical concept of SKAD.

Finally, the chapter will provide some outlooks for the further research process.
