ABSTRACT

This chapter describes an international project that involves in the collaboration with students and teachers on nearly opposite sides of the globe with potentially different value systems. Specifically, the current project involves two university classes with 22 students and two teachers collaborating in two countries separated by nearly 5,000 miles namely Finland and Japan. The World Wide Web makes this possible as the Internet changes many aspects of people's lives including the way they communicate the way that information is found and shared and the way they interact with information in a social context. This project elaborates on how students and teachers use these Internet tools to collaborate internationally. Both Finns and Japanese works in international environments where concrete transnational interaction requires and communication technologies continues to flourish. In English language teaching (ELT) environments, Exploratory Practice projects using real-life global communication is one way to build these communication and interaction skills.
