ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book elaborates the Futures Literacy Framework (FLF) in detail. It focuses on anticipatory systems issues, developing the idea of a Discipline of Anticipation. The book then proposes a critical stepping-stone from experiments that offer proof-of-concept evidence of Futures Literacy (FL) to more rigorous prototype testing based on a mathematical approach that formalises what happens in FLL. It also explains the design principles that inform the operational co-creation of Futures Literacy Framework-Novelty (FLL-N) as a tool for revealing and mapping FL. The book present parallel methodological developments that reinforce the proposition that the emergence of the theory and practice of FL as a capability is part of humanity’s practical efforts to find new ways to reconcile the understanding of human agency with the wonder of the complex emergent universe.
