ABSTRACT

Drawing upon the Intellectual Migration framework that views intellectual pursuit as a continuous journey among higher-education and highly skilled migrants, this chapter compares Chinese higher-education student experiences in Toronto, an intellectual gateway, and Halifax, an intellectual periphery. Particular attention is paid to the factors underlying individual decision-making in order to gain a better understanding on ‘who moves where’, ‘why they move there’, and ‘their current experience’. The research findings are drawn from 554 survey responses and 39 semi-structured interview data collected in Toronto and Halifax.
