ABSTRACT

Reliance on international students to maintain and increase student enrolment and university finances is an increasingly common strategy used by post-secondary institutions across Canada. The University of Manitoba is no exception. As the University is located on Treaty 1 territory, understanding the Indigenization initiatives undertaken at the University is central to understanding the systemic racism that continues to invade the institution and affect how ethnicity is navigated by international students from Asia. This chapter documents the institutional resources and strategies for Indigenous students and international students from Asia and examines how students encounter and navigate racism on campus.
