ABSTRACT

International students are reshaping the postsecondary landscape in Canada. This chapter examines how students from Asia evaluate institutional resources and their views on adjustment, inclusion, and safety, using the 2018 national survey conducted by the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE). By country of citizenship, we show the views of students from China, India, South Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Overall, students from India and the Philippines were more positive about their university and about adjustment, inclusion, and safety than students from China, South Korea, and Vietnam. Despite these differences, less than half of students from Asia strongly agreed with the statement that teaching staff helped them to feel included in the classroom. Thus, Canadian universities and their non-international students, staff, and faculty have much work to do to meet the goals of diversity, and inclusion.
