ABSTRACT
This paper discusses the map on the wall in Frans Hals's Regents of St Elisabeth's Hospital of 1640-41. The first part identifies it as an existing map of Flanders, published in 1633, while the second part explores its presence in the regents' room with reference to the special relationship between the hospital and Stadtholder Fredrik Hendrik's States army, which was still active in Flanders at the time.
