ABSTRACT
All weekdays at the ias have their own identity, and on Tuesdays the members of the ai, Media & Democracy Lab gather. Natali Helberger and Claes de Vreese, both university professors at the University of Amsterdam, with a focus on ai and society, spend this day working with the lab's researchers, organising events and collaborating with partners from media, government, law, ngos and tech companies. Their research not only crosses disciplinary boundaries, but also includes representatives from beyond academia, such as regulators, companies and (international) media organisations who all like working together at the ias. The co-leaders recently had to re-evaluate their open-house policy, since there is only a limited number of workspaces available at the ias. ‘We were forced to run a list of who is actually allowed to be here on Tuesday. Everybody just wants to work here!’ Helberger laughs.
