ABSTRACT
In the second week of my residency, ias director Huub Dijstelbloem, and Julia Hoffmann, the institute manager, and I sit at the large table in the Sweelinck room of the ias. The space is simultaneously stately and imposing, with high ceilings, traditionally green-painted walls, and a view of the Munttoren, yet also cosy, furnished with large brown armchairs around a small table by the window, a bookcase and artworks by former artists-in-residence adorning the walls.
