ABSTRACT

We meet Sabine Rau-Oberhuber in the main halt of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, just as she is saying goodbye to her son, who is a student there. ‘This interview is a pleasant coincidence,'she sayswith a smile, explaining that she had recently given her husband an earlier book by Covert Buijs and Jan Peter Balkenende as a Christmas present. During our conversation, she speaks calmly and thoughtfully, weighing her words with care. Afterwards, she wonders aloud if she focused too much on the challenges. To us, her reflections offer valuable insight into the tough decisions and practical realities involved in working towards a more sustainable economy. Rau-Oberhuber shows why real change is so complex, and why there is still reason for hope.
