ABSTRACT

The Orbit is a handheld camera stabilization system with a patented, mechanically driven, twin-grip arrangement that requires no batteries, motors, or balancing weights. It measures 17 x 5 x 17 inches (43.0 x 13.0 x 43.0 cm) and weighs 4.4 lbs (2.0 kg). It is designed to support HDSLR/mirrorless cameras and small to medium-sized camcorders weighing up to 11 lbs (5 kg). It comes with three pairs of extension arms that are 0.98 inches (25 mm), 1.97 inches (50 mm) and 2.95 inches (75 mm) in size, which can be used individually or added together to further increase their length. This lightweight device causes less operator fatigue than comparable support systems. It enables the camera operator to move freely around the subject and can easily be passed from one operator to another. The Orbit was invented by independent film-maker Leonard Retel Helmrich and subsequently licensed to Bowens International Ltd. It was released on February 17, 2014.
