ABSTRACT
This essay begins with the author’s radical renditions of poetry by Yu Xiuhua, who catapulted to fame when her blog went viral in 2014. She then lays out a queer-feminist approach to translating Yu, which is informed by fiercely intimate textual encounters as much as by the recognition of the poet’s and translator’s identities in their social and (geo)political contexts, and by translation as discomfort and failure as well as solidarity and collaboration.
