ABSTRACT
Belleville (Paris) and El Raval (Barcelona) were both working class, stigmatized districts, that have been used several times as case studies for gentrification research. The following chapter presents the results of a piece of research that focused on identifying the representations local actors reproduce of both districts in urban development plans and written press. We will here focus on the presentation of the results of the Critical Discourse Analysis of sixty-eight articles, that identified the representations of both districts in written press. The qualitative analysis that resulted allows us to identify three major common representations (trendy, conflictual, or supportive district) but also some contextual differences that can lead to other ones.
