ABSTRACT
Water: source of life, symbol of purity. But also a threatening force of nature that humans have to struggle with. Life-giving friend, life-taking foe. Since time immemorial and across the globe this ambiguous relationship with water has resonated in religious narratives and technological innovations alike. Today, it also resonates in several of the Sustainable Development Goals, the umbrella for a programme addressing the challenges of our times.
