ABSTRACT

In this section, we explore prominent interpretations of the idea of nature as our students visit the first of several professors they will speak with in the book. Four key definitions are advanced: (i) nature as the non-human world; (ii) nature as an inherent quality; (iii) nature as superordinate force; and (iv) nature as the totality of all living and non-living things. This section also advances the idea of the web of life as an overall perspective that can carry the characters forward in their study.
