ABSTRACT

Poro-elastic theory has been widely applied to various engineering and scientific problems involved in multi-phase media. For environmental science and civil related engineering fields, we are interested in static and dynamic response of porous media subject to environmental loading as well as other type of forces, such as those of thermal and chemical origin. These are generally known as poromechanics, which was first created from Biot Conference on Poromechanics. In this chapter, the three main streams covered in this book, solute transport in porous media, tidal dynamic in coastal aquifers and fluid-soil-structure interaction in porous media, are discussed briefly. Contents of each chapter are summarized. Finally, several future research scopes are highlighted.
