ABSTRACT
The productivity of sheep can be increased, and the genetic quality of their offspring can be improved, and thus increasing farmer profits. One form of maintenance management is to apply the method of Artificial Insemination (AI). With a combination of estrous synchronization methods, AI was performed on 30 productive fat tail sheep using frozen semen obtained from BBIB Lembang, Bandung. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a successful pregnancy rate affected the sheep's body weight. When estrus has been synchronized, most ewes are in estrus within 36–48 hours and ovulate at 60 hours. The results showed that 15 sheep showed the highest yield with body weight above 30 kg, which obtained a percentage of estrus 100% and a pregnancy rate of 80%. In comparison, 15 sheep with a body weight below 30 kilograms received an estrus percentage of 26.66%, and the rate of pregnancy was 12.33%. Based on these results, it was found that body weight in fat-tailed sheep had a very significant effect (P>0.05) on the success of AI. The conclusion of this study showed that the body weight of fat-tailed sheep had a significant effect on the success of artificial insemination.
