ABSTRACT
This research was conducted with aiming to estimate genetic parameters (heritability, genetic correlation) and breeding value using an animal model to select Saburai goats based on weaning and yearling weight. Data on weaning and yearling weight of fifty Saburai goats generated from nine bucks and eleven dams were used in this study. Heritability, genetic, and phenotypic correlation were estimated using animal models with the help of the WOMBAT program. The results showed that heritability estimates for weaning and yearling weight were moderate to high category (0.34 ± 0.18 and 0.44 ± 0.15, respectively). Genetic and phenotypic correlation between weaning and yearling weight was categorized as a high positive value (0.45 ± 0.16 and 0.56, respectively). The moderate to high heritability and positive genetic correlation between weaning and yearling weight implied that selection for either weaning weight or yearling weight would succeed.
