ABSTRACT
Solar energy is used to generate electricity with solar panels using photovoltaics (PV). The cost of electricity from solar has decreased to less than 10 cents per kilowatt hour, and it is one of the least expensive sources of electricity. Solar panels can be installed on a roof and in a parking lot. They are also installed on water. Because there are no greenhouse gas emissions associated with solar PV, solar-generated electricity is very important in the effort to reach net zero. Batteries are used for storage and for delivering electricity to the grid when electricity is needed at night. Solar-generated electricity can be used to produce hydrogen by electrolysis of water.
