ABSTRACT

Electricity is being generated using wind in many countries around the world. The cost has decreased to about $0.30 or 30 cents per kilowatt hour for onshore wind. Because of the low cost, there are many wind farms in many U.S. states. Costs have decreased during the 20 years from 2004 to 2024. In 2024, the total installed global capacity exceeds 900 GW. There is good progress in the development of offshore wind for the generation of electricity, with 171 MW installed by Norway and over 400 GW installed globally in 2024. There is a need to make good use of all of the electricity produced by wind by charging batteries and producing hydrogen by electrolysis when supply exceeds demand.
