ABSTRACT

This chapter recalls the operational principles of desiccant cooling systems and discusses the recent progress of these systems and their technological advancements in recent years. Such systems are particularly advantageous for integration with solar-powered systems since they employ a natural working fluid and can be reactivated by low-grade thermal energy. These benefits have led to a growing body of knowledge that desiccant cooling systems are promising alternatives to conventional cooling systems and have sparked attention in the recent years. In order to give knowledge for prospective application, this chapter intends to highlight scientific achievements connected to desiccant cooling systems. In a hybrid cooling system, the conventional cooling manages the sensible cooling load and the desiccant dehumidifier effectively handles the latent cooling load. This demonstrates the viability of desiccant cooling in various climates and highlights the benefits it can provide in terms of energy and cost savings. The chapter reviews the many types and uses of solid desiccant cooling systems that cover configurations of similar systems as well as approaches in detail. This analysis clarifies the current state of art of desiccant cooling systems and suggests areas for potential future advancements.
