ABSTRACT

Simon Hook has experienced many developments in thermal remote sensing throughout his career. In this chapter, we hear personal stories from Simon’s career, from becoming one of the first remote sensing geologists as a student, to leading many of the thermal instruments that you will read about in this book. These include airborne instruments, such as MODIS/ASTER Airborne Simulator (MASTER) and Hyperspectral Thermal Emission Spectrometer (HyTES), and spaceborne instruments, such as Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS), and Surface Biology and Geology-Thermal Infrared (SBG-TIR).
