ABSTRACT
Alkanes are the simplest organic compounds and one of the traditional feedstocks – coming from fossil fuels – of organic chemistry. In this chapter, alkanes and cycloalkanes are presented in detail both to understand the structure of alkanes and as a means of introducing IUPAC nomenclature, cycloalkanes, and conformational analysis.
