ABSTRACT
Spectroscopy is the study of the interaction between electromagnetic radiation and matter. Infrared (IR) light excites molecular vibrations and can be utilized to determine the functional groups present within a molecule. In this chapter, the underlying principles of IR spectroscopy are introduced to provide readers with the ability to analyze IR spectra.
