ABSTRACT
The objective of the chapter is to provide a comprehensive overview of radon and uranium exposure from gold mine tailings in Africa. This includes examining the sources, distribution, and pathways of human exposure to radon and uranium. The chapter will also evaluate the health effects associated with these exposures, as well as current regulatory frameworks and mitigation strategies. This chapter aims to identify knowledge gaps and research needs in understanding and addressing radon and uranium exposure in African mining communities. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of effective policies and interventions to reduce the health risks associated with radon and uranium exposure in these settings.
