ABSTRACT
Global collaborations could span different geographic, cultural, and economic landscapes, potentially resulting in circumstances that yield ethical concerns or questions. This chapter provides guidance and tools on choices of different ethically grounded paths, and assistance for avoiding ethically problematic actions. The four core ethical values of the International Council on Radiation Protection, which are also relevant to medical physics, are reviewed. These include beneficence and non-maleficence, prudence, justice, and dignity. Some examples are given of global collaboration activities that may give rise to ethical considerations. Ethical issues in the research and teaching contexts are also addressed. Finally, some specific key points and recommendations are summarized. With application of the ethical principles discussed in this chapter, the participants in global outreach activities will be prepared to identify and respond creatively to ethical challenges encountered in this important work.
