ABSTRACT
The first chapter presents basic information about tensegrity systems, from the inception of the idea to its application in civil engineering. The standard applications are described in detail, i.e., the use of tensegrity ideas for the construction of domes, towers/booms, and double-layer grids. Finally, a brief review of existing research is provided.
