ABSTRACT

The second chapter presents a geometrically nonlinear model of the tensegrity element. The mathematical description is presented step-by-step for the benefit of the reader who is less familiar with solid mechanics. Apart from anything, this section is primarily intended to familiarize the reader with the notation adopted throughout this book. The majority of developments have been carried out using simple matrix–vector notation. Only an introduction needs tensor notation to explain the non-linear theory of elasticity.
