ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the life of a young doctor in a hospital, told through the events of a night shift in a surgical department. It portrays the pressure of handling multiple patient requests simultaneously, the delicate balance of fostering relationships with nurses and colleagues, and the experiencing of helplessness and uncertainty when confronting deep suffering and moral dilemmas without collegial support. Drawing on diary notes, this text provides an authentic account of the demanding journey of a junior doctor.
