ABSTRACT
Survival analysis has long been a classic area of statistical study. For example, the famous Kaplan–Meier estimator got its name from a paper published in the year 1958 [89] and remains the most cited statistical paper. Many textbooks on survival analysis are available, and the list is still growing. The main survival analysis procedures are available in all major statistical software packages. On the other hand, empirical likelihood is a methodology that has only recently been developed. The name “empirical likelihood” seems to appear first in Owen's 1988 paper [131]. Only a handful of books have so far been available on empirical likelihood, and most commercial statistical software does not yet include empirical likelihood procedures.
