ABSTRACT

The width of a planned artificial canal channel is relatively narrow and its water depth is shallow, which brings certain difficulties to the navigation of 5000 tons ships. In addition, some canal channels have S-shaped continuous turning sections. In this paper, the maneuverability of a 5000 tons ship passing through the continuous turning section of an artificial canal is simulated on the ship maneuverability simulator, and the maneuverability characteristics of the ship such as drift Angle, and track line are carefully studied, and the influence of different environmental factors on the navigation safety and maneuverability of the ship are analyzed. Some suggestions for optimizing the layout of continuous bends are put forward, such as increasing the turning radius of continuous bends, reducing channel turn angle, and extending the length of straight lines between two bends. The research of this paper will effectively ensure the maneuvering safety and navigation efficiency of large ships under the condition of narrow waterways.
