ABSTRACT

Objective: The study purpose was to assess the prevalence of joint problems in dentistry students from various ethnic groups in South Sulawesi. Material and Methods: Joint disorders are assessed using the Fonseca Amnestic Index (FAI) questionnaire and using a total sampling method. Result: There were 436 dental students from various ethnic origins. There are 56.65% of subjects with joint disorder, with more women. The Bugis group has 29.13% subjects with joint disorders. Chi-Square analysis revealed that the gender variable had a p-value of 0.016 (p<0.05). The ethnic variable has a p-value of 0.107 (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study found that women and the Bugis group have experienced joint disorders more than others. There was a significant connection between gender and temporomandibular joint disorder, but not with ethnicity.
