ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of Er,Cr:YSGG laser as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) in clinical and biochemical outcomes. Method: A scoping literature review was conducted using PubMed, ProQuest, and Google Scholar up to December 2023. Clinical trials were selected using the PCC framework: population (periodontitis patients), concept (Er,Cr:YSGG laser as SRP adjunct), and context (clinical and biochemical evaluation). From 248 articles, 12 were included following PRISMA guidelines. Results: Ten of the 12 studies reported significantly improved healing in patients treated with the laser. Common clinical parameters assessed were probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and bleeding on probing (BOP). Biochemical markers included IL-1β, IL-8, and MMP-8. Conclusion: Most studies support the effectiveness of Er,Cr:YSGG laser in enhancing periodontitis healing post-SRP. Further research through systematic reviews and meta-analyses is recommended.
