ABSTRACT

Objectives: to know the association between anxiety and other variables such as demographics, knowledge, attitudes, practices, and family support during COVID-19 among dentistry students at YARSI University. A cross-sectional study was conducted in November 2020 among 306 students. Students provided informed consent before completing a questionnaire. Data was analyzed using chi-squared and logistic regression. Ethical approval was obtained from YARSI University. The results showed that 62.4% of students had good knowledge of COVID-19, 95.8% had a positive attitude towards COVID-19, and 80.1% practiced good preventive behaviors. Anxiety levels among students were high, with 71.6% experiencing high anxiety, 23.2% moderate anxiety, and only 5.2% low anxiety. Logistic regression revealed that gender was significantly associated with anxiety related to COVID-19. In conclusion, the important determinant of anxiety among dentistry students at YARSI University during the COVID-19 pandemic was gender, women reported higher levels of fear and anxiety during the pandemic.
