ABSTRACT

For many years, Geographic Information Systems have been increasingly used in many activities carried out by various institutions, including mining companies, both during and after their operations. In order for analyses to be reliable, the data used must be up-to-date, complete and come from reliable sources. In recent years, so-called web services, which allow any user with Internet access to view and download data, have become very popular. The most widely used services are WMS, WMTS, WCS and WFS. Software is an element that supports the functioning of Geographic Information Systems. Thanks to continuous development, it allows for the easy implementation of the basic functions of these systems, i.e. the collection, management, processing, analysis and visualisation of data. The author of the paper indicates possible sources of data (both vector and raster) relevant to supporting change monitoring and decision-making in mining areas. She focused in particular on data that is made available free of charge through web services.
