ABSTRACT

NEY & Partners, renowned for its structural design and engineering of buildings and bridges, has recently undertaken a structured approach to benchmark and assess the sustainability measures of its completed and ongoing projects. This initiative underscores the office’s dedication to embedding sustainable practices into its design philosophy. This paper begins by discussing the environmental impact of load-bearing structures, structural design strategies towards low global warming potential, and how the sustainability plan of NEY & Partners has been taken shape as a framework that integrates both quantitative and qualitative metrics to create a comprehensive sustainability fingerprint for each project. Subsequently, the paper details the technical development of the web application that translates this framework into a practical tool, highlighting its role in fostering collaborative data management and promoting sustainable engineering practices. Finally, both the framework and the web application are evaluated and future perspectives and needs are outlined. As currently a limited amount of projects are included, a thorough analysis of the results and the correlation between quantitative and qualitative measures is considered as future research within the further development of the framework.
