ABSTRACT
Violence and abuse toward medical staff are one of the many factors that can have a devastating and lasting impact on their health and well-being. Many countries still lack good practices and systemic solutions aimed at reducing the number of incidents involving aggressive behavior by patients in the healthcare sector. It is therefore necessary to take measures to limit the escalation of aggressive behavior by patients and to build a safe working environment for doctors, nursing staff, and paramedics, not only in hospital emergency departments (EDs).
