ABSTRACT

So far, deliberations have concerned various aspects of human likeness in robots, focusing on external and internal resemblance and related ethical risks. This chapter is different, and it has a summary character. The main aim here is to combine the positions presented in previous chapters and present them in a more structured, general frame. This framework contains three categories of positions. The first two concern human-like aspects in the design of robots that are candidates for a ban, and those aspects of human likeness that should be used with caution. The third category focuses on positive changes that might have to be introduced to counter the negative aspects of human likeness. There is also a short discussion on how ethical deliberation might be turned into practice.
