ABSTRACT

Chapter 2, “Electroencephalography (EEG)” is about electroencephalography as it is used in augmented cognition. Before background on how electroencephalography works is given, a short philosophical discussion clarifies why electroencephalography is relevant to cognition. More technical details about electroencephalography—including its equipment and implementation—are given before the discussion turns to how neurotechnology has been used to study individual differences. In the last place, neurotechnology is situated in a broader landscape of authorship and application, including varieties of electroencephalography outside of augmented cognition. Lastly, electroencephalography is situated back into the human–computer interaction. Throughout the chapter, images showing how electroencephalography is read and used are shown.
