ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the authors cover some of the weaknesses of the Wi-Fi technology and give real world examples of how these weaknesses can be used to expose other areas that may not be completely obvious at first. The operating system will play a key role in determining what other hardware will be required. If a version of Microsoft Windows is going to be used, then an AirPcap adapter will be required. The AirPcap adapter allows a Windows machine to monitor and capture wireless traffic and has a price range from around $200 to $700, depending on functionality. One of the most important aspects of targeting a device is the ability to identify the type of device it actually is. Different devices work on the network in different ways with different capabilities. Multicast domain name system is a technology developed by Apple and is used by the iPhone to help make networking devices together easier for the user.
