ABSTRACT

Passwords are an integral part of our lives in today’s electronic world. Most people are accustomed to entering a username and password for their computers at work and home. However, the most shocking part of the password puzzle is that people still commonly use the names of their family members, pets, favorite sports teams or music groups, and hobbies for their passwords. And many people seem to use the same passwords over and over from site to site on the Internet. Using the strong passwords with uppercase, lowercase, and special characters and a minimum length of 8 characters is advisable. It is a serious miscalculation to believe that extremely strong passwords will secure our account. Using the Cain program with rainbow tables that were created using Winrtgen (or some other program) is an extremely effective way to crack the passwords.
