Just downstream from many gullies, the tributaries may have been the most tumultuous zone of all since so much varied action-gully fans, flooding, floodplain aggradation, and extreme streambank erosion-was packed into such a relatively small area (see Chapter 3 for details on form and process). The processes affected villages, farms, roads, railroads, bridges, and communication lines, often disastrously.
