ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Message Authentication Code layer and its interactions with higher layers like the network layer. Wi-Fi networks are a marriage between client devices and access points, which are referred to as stations and access points, respectively. Wireless on wheels or Workstations on Wheels are nothing more than a laptop or desktop computer mounted to a cart. The starting point for wireless local area network (LAN) design is identifying which devices and applications will be utilizing the wireless LAN. One important thing to keep in mind when deploying wireless medical equipment is to ensure that manual backups such as audible alarms are present in case of a network outage. Broadcast frames on an encrypted network use a common key among all the clients called a Group Temporal Key. In Wi-Fi networks, the number and size of packets is significantly less important than the data rates at which they are transmitted.
