ABSTRACT
The purpose of this section is to familiarize readers with the two most commonly performed thyroid operations: thyroid lobectomy and total thyroidectomy. The standard surgical techniques and overall operative sensibility applied to thyroid lobectomy form the basis for virtually all thyroid procedures. As such, the major portion of the discussion that follows addresses excision of a thyroid lobe.
